VENDÉE

WHY CHOOSE THE VENDÉE

The Vendée region is the ideal base for the perfect seaside holiday. Miles of glorious sandy beaches stretch as far as the eye can see. Just inland, rambling Pine forests provide shade from the warm summer sun. The Vendée boasts its own micro-climate and records the second highest number of sunshine hours in France. Watersports are very much part of the scene here. A veritable sunbather’s paradise.

The fashionable resorts of St. Jean de Monts and Les Sables d’Olonne are renowned for their sandy beaches, vibrant promenades and seafood restaurants. As in Brittany, seafood is a speciality here and mussels are commercially cultivated along the Vendéen coast.

This region is home to the famous Muscadet and Gros Plant wines. You can spend hours exploring the many vineyards and then sampling the finished product at the local ‘caves’ where good quality wines are sold at very reasonable prices.

Forget the idea that the summer in Brittany is damp and wet. The coastal area of South Finistère enjoys long hours of glorious sunshine, with only moderate rainfall. The Gulf stream boosts the water temperature to make the whole coast ideal for yachting and watersports of all kind.
