This area is one of the most beautiful regions of France, nestled between the Western Mediterranean and the Pyrenees where the locals consider themselves more Catalan than French and in certain areas like the old quarter of Perpignan (the capital) you hear Catalan being spoken. In more recent years lively resorts have grown up around the coast but life has changed little inland. A visit to Beziers which is the wine producing capital is a must along with a canal trip on the Midi Canal.
Towards the Spanish border lies the beautiful fishing port of Collioure with its cobbled streets and within a two hour drive you have the opportunity to explore Barcelona.
